1. Price Difference

304N1 is a high-strength upgraded grade derived from standard 304 stainless steel. Its price is between 304 and 316L, about 8% to 12% higher than ordinary 304 cold rolled sheet. The cost increase comes from the precise nitrogen alloying process and strict mechanical performance control. Compared with expensive 316L, 304N1 has obvious cost advantages; compared with ordinary 304, it has higher structural strength. It is a cost-effective high-strength structural stainless steel, very suitable for high-load lightweight export engineering projects.

2. Corrosion Resistance

304N1 inherits the excellent atmospheric corrosion resistance of 304 base material, and its pitting corrosion resistance and intergranular corrosion resistance are significantly improved by nitrogen strengthening. Its anti-corrosion performance is better than standard 304, and slightly lower than 316L. It can adapt to mild chloride environment, urban coastal marginal areas and humid industrial environments that ordinary 304 cannot bear. It has stable oxidation resistance and salt spray resistance in low-corrosion and medium-load working conditions.

3. Application Industry

304N1 cold rolled stainless steel is mainly aimed at high-strength structural engineering fields. Its core application scenarios include high-load building curtain wall support structures, rail transit vehicle internal structural parts, automotive lightweight reinforcement parts, medium-pressure food storage and reaction equipment, outdoor high-load stainless steel tanks, coastal light anti-corrosion structural parts and municipal engineering load-bearing components. It is widely used in export projects that require both high strength and certain anti-corrosion performance.

4. Service Life

Benefiting from improved corrosion resistance and stable structural performance, 304N1 has a longer service life than ordinary 304. In conventional urban outdoor environments, the service life can reach 22 to 28 years. In mild chloride and humid environments, it can work stably for more than 20 years without structural deformation and surface rust failure. It effectively avoids the problems of insufficient strength and short service life of ordinary 304 under high-load conditions.

5. Processing Performance

304N1 completely retains the excellent bending, welding and forming performance of 304 austenitic stainless steel, with no difficulty in conventional processing. At the same time, nitrogen solid solution strengthening significantly improves its yield strength and structural rigidity. Under the same load standard, 304N1 can use thinner plate thickness instead of thick 304 plate, realizing lightweight design. It has high processing stability and is very suitable for batch processing of high-strength structural parts and lightweight engineering parts for export.
