Seamless steel pipe is a long, seamless steel strip with a hollow cross-section. Steel pipes with hollow cross-sections are widely used as pipelines for transporting fluids, such as oil, natural gas, coal gas, water, and certain solid materials.

Seamless steel pipe production methods are broadly divided into cross-rolling (the Munnesmann process) and extrusion.

The cross-rolling (the Munnesmann process) first perforates the tube billet using cross-rollers and then stretches it using a rolling mill. This method offers high production speed but requires high workability. It is primarily suitable for producing carbon steel and low-alloy steel pipes.

The extrusion process perforates the tube billet or ingot using a piercer and then extrudes it into a steel pipe using an extruder. This method is less efficient than cross-rolling and is suitable for producing high-strength alloy steel pipes.

Both cross-rolling and extrusion require the tube billet or ingot to be heated first, resulting in the production of hot-rolled pipe. Steel pipes produced using hot-working methods can sometimes be cold-worked as needed. There are two cold working methods: cold drawing, which involves drawing a steel pipe through a drawing die to gradually taper and elongate it; and cold rolling, which utilizes the hot rolling mill invented by the Munnesmann brothers for cold working. Cold working seamless steel pipes can improve their dimensional accuracy, finish, and mechanical properties.

1. Seamless steel pipes can be categorized by production method as hot-rolled, cold-rolled, cold-drawn, and extruded.

2. Shapes include round and special-shaped pipes. In addition to square and rectangular shapes, special-shaped pipes also include elliptical, semi-circular, triangular, hexagonal, convex, and plum blossom shapes.

3. Material type includes ordinary carbon structural pipes, low-alloy structural pipes, high-quality carbon structural pipes, alloy structural pipes, and stainless steel pipes.

4. Specific applications include boiler pipes, geological pipes, and oil pipes.

The above is the processing technology of seamless steel pipe. I hope it can be helpful to you.
