Products Description

GR2 Titanium Tube refers to ASTM B338 Grade 2 commercially pure seamless titanium tube.Grade 2 is the most widely used pure titanium material with a single-phase alpha microstructure. It features excellent ductility, moderate strength and superior corrosion resistance, different from titanium alloy Grade 5 (TC4). The standard ASTM B338 specifies titanium tubes for heat exchangers and fluid transmission.

Production Process

 Raw Material Inspection
Check GR2 titanium billets, test chemical composition, surface defects and dimensional tolerance to meet ASTM B338 standards.

 Heating & Piercing
Heat solid titanium round billet to uniform forming temperature, then pierce into hollow tube blank via cross rolling mill.

 Cold Rolling / Cold Drawing
Multi-pass cold rolling and cold drawing to precisely control outer diameter, wall thickness and smooth inner/outer surface.              Smaller precision tubes adopt multiple drawing passes.

 Intermediate Pickling
Remove oxide scales and cold working stress layers with mixed acid cleaning after each forming pass.

Vacuum Annealing (Critical Step for GR2)
Conduct high-temperature vacuum annealing without air contact to eliminate work hardening, restore ductility and stable single      α-phase structure. No oxidation on tube surface.

 Straightening & Cutting
Straighten bent tubes to straightness tolerance, cut into customer required fixed lengths and deburr pipe ends.

 Final Surface Treatment
Pickling for matte standard finish; optional mechanical polishing for mirror bright surface upon request.

 Strict Quality Inspection

Dimensional measurement (OD, wall thickness, length)

    PMI chemical composition test

Hydrostatic pressure / eddy current non-destructive test

Surface visual inspection for cracks, scratches, pits

Hardness & tensile mechanical sampling test

 Marking & Packing
Mark heat number, grade, size, standard on each tube; use moisture-proof packaging with plastic caps for pipe ends, wooden          cases/pallets for sea transportation.

Precautions

Processing Temperature: During hot working, the temperature must be controlled between 850-950°C to avoid overheating and grain coarsening.
Surface Protection: Passivation treatment is required after cutting to prevent the oxide layer from affecting corrosion resistance.
Material Compatibility: When used with grades such as TC4 and TC6, the risk of electrochemical corrosion should be assessed. We now offer GR2 titanium tube, made from an α+β titanium alloy, which offers strong corrosion resistance and high specific strength. Custom processing and surface finishing are available. Frequently Asked Questions

What standard does GR2 Titanium Tube follow?

ASTM B338, the standard for seamless titanium heat exchanger & condenser tubes. GR2 is commercially pure titanium (CP Ti).

What is the difference between GR2 titanium tube and 316L stainless steel tube?

GR2 titanium is lighter, far more resistant to seawater/chloride corrosion, non-toxic and non-magnetic. Its production needs vacuum melting and vacuum annealing with strict control of O/N/H impurities, leading to higher cost. 316L has lower anti-chloride performance, heavier weight but lower price and simpler manufacturing process.

Can GR2 titanium tube be bent into U-tubes for heat exchangers?

Yes. GR2 has excellent ductility after vacuum annealing. We provide customized U-tube deep processing.

What's the maximum continuous service temperature of GR2 titanium tube?

-200°C ~ 315°C. Long-term use over 315°C will cause material oxidation and performance degradation.
