Stainless Steel Pipe Compression Fittings

Stainless Steel Pipe Compression Fittings

1. Realize thin-walled pipes and pipe fittings and save materials.
2. Low connection strength (interface connection strength is less than 1/3 of the strength of the pipe body)
3. The pipeline cannot be disassembled. Scope of application: open-mounted and concealed pipelines ≤DN65.
4. If the burrs and flash on the pipe port are not removed cleanly, the rubber ring will be damaged, which will become a hidden danger of water leakage in the future.

Products Description

Stainless steel pipe compression fittings are a type of pipe fittings used to connect stainless steel pipes. They achieve sealing and connection functions through compression and are widely used in many pipeline systems.

Pipe diameter specifications

Usually expressed in nominal diameter (NPS), common specifications include NPS 1/8 (corresponding to an outer diameter of about 10.3mm), NPS 1/4 (corresponding to an outer diameter of about 13.7mm), NPS 3/8 (corresponding to an outer diameter of about 17.1mm), NPS 1/2 (corresponding to an outer diameter of about 21.3mm), NPS 3/4 (corresponding to an outer diameter of about 26.7mm), NPS 1 (corresponding to an outer diameter of about 33.4mm), etc., and larger sizes include NPS 2 (corresponding to an outer diameter of about 60.3mm), NPS 3 (corresponding to an outer diameter of about 88.9mm), etc.

Wall thickness

There are many choices for wall thickness corresponding to different pipe diameters. For example, NPS 1/2 stainless steel pipe compression fittings may have different specifications such as wall thickness of 1.65mm (SCH 5S), 2.11mm (SCH 10S), etc.; NPS 1 may have wall thickness of 2.11mm (SCH 10S), 2.77mm (SCH 20S), etc. Common wall thickness specifications also include SCH 30, SCH 40, STD, XS, SCH 80, SCH 160, etc. The larger the value, the thicker the wall thickness.

Compression connection principle

Compression type is a connection method that uses a socket pipe fitting with a sealing ring to connect the pipe, and uses a special tool to press the pipe mouth to seal and tighten. During assembly, insert the stainless steel water pipe into the pipe fitting, and use a special compression tool to clamp the socket part for compression. The pipe fitting and the pipe material at the compression part shrink and deform at the same time, forming a hexagonal shape, which plays a role in positioning and fixing. At the same time, the compression deformation of the sealing ring produces a sealing effect, thereby effectively realizing the safe connection of the pipeline.

Main components and functions

Main body

The main body is the core part of the compression fitting, usually made of metal (such as stainless steel). It has an interface for connecting to the stainless steel pipe, and the internal structure is designed to accommodate other components (such as seals and fastening nuts). The shape and size of the main body are determined according to the pipeline specifications and connection requirements. For example, for Stainless Steel Pipe compression fittings of different diameters, the inner diameter of the main body and the size of the connection port will change accordingly.

Nut

The nut is generally made of metal (matching the material of the main body, mostly stainless steel), and its outer surface is threaded. The main function of the nut is to generate axial pressure on the main body through rotation, thereby pushing the seal (such as the collar) to closely contact the stainless steel pipe to achieve connection and sealing. The size and thread specifications of the nut need to be precisely matched with the main body to ensure a reliable fastening effect.

Ring (seal)

Rings are usually made of elastic materials, commonly rubber (such as nitrile rubber, EPDM rubber, etc.) or polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). The collar is located between the main body and the stainless steel pipe. When the nut is tightened, the collar deforms under pressure. The rubber collar will fit tightly on the outer surface of the stainless steel pipe, filling the tiny gap between the two, playing a sealing role, and preventing the medium in the pipeline from leaking; in addition to the sealing function, the PTFE collar also has good chemical stability and low friction characteristics, which is suitable for some special media or pipeline systems with low friction requirements.
