FAQ

316ti Stainless Steel

01.What is TP316Ti Pipe?

TP316Ti Pipe is a titanium-stabilized austenitic stainless steel pipe manufactured according to ASTM A312 standards. By adding titanium to the conventional 316 stainless steel composition, TP316Ti effectively prevents chromium carbide precipitation during welding and prolonged exposure to elevated temperatures. This provides superior resistance to intergranular corrosion while maintaining excellent corrosion resistance, strength, and weldability. It is widely used in chemical processing, petrochemical plants, heat exchangers, power generation, and marine engineering.

02.Is TP316Ti Better Than 316L?

TP316Ti and 316L are both excellent stainless steel grades, but they are designed for different applications.

316L has a lower carbon content, making it ideal for general welding applications and excellent corrosion resistance. TP316Ti contains titanium, which stabilizes the material against sensitization and intergranular corrosion during long-term exposure to temperatures between 450°C and 850°C.

For high-temperature service, heat exchangers, boilers, and petrochemical equipment, TP316Ti is generally the better choice. For standard corrosive environments and lower operating temperatures, 316L is often sufficient and more economical.

03.Can 316Ti Pipe Be Welded?

Yes. TP316Ti Stainless Steel Pipe has excellent weldability and can be welded using conventional TIG, MIG, and arc welding processes. Unlike standard 316 stainless steel, the titanium addition minimizes chromium carbide precipitation during welding, reducing the risk of intergranular corrosion.

In most applications, post-weld heat treatment is not required, although proper filler materials and welding procedures should be selected according to the service environment
